Paris Saint-Germain Defeats Olympique de Marseille in a Shootout to Claim French Super Cup in Kuwait.
PSG has now won the prestigious trophy on fourteen separate occasions.
The Parisian giants needed a dramatic leveler followed by a successful spot-kick decider to get past Marseille in the Gulf and secure a fourth straight French Super Cup victory.
The European champions seemed to be coasting towards a comfortable triumph in the match featuring the French league winners and the Coupe de France holders after the French winger opened the net early on.
Yet, Marseille struck two times in the closing moments to take a shock advantage. First, Mason Greenwood scored from the spot-kick, before Willian Pacho inadvertently directed the ball into his own net for an own-goal.
In a breathtaking turn of fortune, the Portuguese striker snatched a vital equaliser in the dying seconds to send the match into a deciding shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Chevalier then stood as the hero, stopping decisive kicks from Matt O'Riley and Hamed Traore.
In the shootout, Goncalo Ramos, the midfielder, the full-back, and Desire Doue all converted with composure for PSG to complete a convincing shootout victory.
The record winners PSG, who met last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Olympique de Marseille after achieving a league and cup double, have now lifted this competition for the twelfth time in the past thirteen seasons.
